World sight Day - New horizons in ophthalmology
October 12, 2023 | 18:00 - 20:00
Genetic engineering, a growing understanding of human biology, increased precision in imaging the eye and its surgical accessibility are opening new therapeutic possibilities in ophthalmology. That blind people could partially regain their vision was unthinkable until recently. But this is the declared research goal of the Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB). Under the direction of Botond Roska and Hendrik Scholl, researchers at the IOB are working on new methods that should make it possible to treat eye diseases for which there are currently no or only inadequate therapies. As part of World Sight Day on October 12, Botond Roska and Hendrik Scholl will speak at the Novartis Pavillon about the work at the institute, which aims to reach new horizons in ophthalmology thanks to its leading clinical and basic research.
This event will be held in English.
